Fresh Herbal Tincture

Tincture of Motherwort

Tincture of Yarrow

Tincture of St. Joan's Wort

Harvest motherwort (or yarrow) (or Hypericum) when in full bloom, cutting the top third of the plant, including leaves, flowers, flower buds, seeds, and stalk.

Cut this into small pieces and fill a jar with them. Use the “fairy mattress” rule: pack the plant material in the jar tightly enough that a fairy would not fall through, but not so tightly that she would be bruised by sleeping on it.

Then fill the jar with 100 proof vodka. (You could use other alcohol, but it must be at least 100 proof. I prefer vodka as it is the alcohol that is the kindest to the liver.)

Label your jar, including the date.

Your tincture is ready to use in 6 weeks.
